Final Exam Distance Learning Response

Complete the following sentence: I used to think — but now I think — .
I used to think women who exploited themselves by posing partially or fully nude were women who didn’t care about what that said about them. I used to think that they were women who were facilitating and maintaining the way women and women in sport are “supposed to be viewed.” But now I think that they, just like the rest of society, assume that this is how it is supposed to be. That women have to work harder to get noticed for their hard work and accomplishments, and when they are noticed, 9 times out of 10 it is because of their bodies. Their bodies are selling their sport, not their talent or accomplishments. I am not saying that these women do not have a choice, on the contrary, the other choices just have not been made available. Sports fans watch men’s sports like football or men’s basketball, not women, condemning them before they get a chance. In fact, the only time women are brought into the world of men’s sports is when they are playing a supportive role, like wife, girlfriend, mother or cheerleader. Everywhere we turn sports are represented by men, whereas fitness, health and looking good is for the women to do, not competitive sport. Hopefully this will change

If someone asked you, “what did you learn in KIN 338I,” how would you respond? How do you think you would respond in five years from now?
The fact that women are so underrepresented and ignored mostly in the world of sports often goes highly unnoticed. It is actually accepted or assumed that women follow behind the men’s shadows, making it harder for them to create a name for themselves. This is of course what society has laid out for us to think as normal. My views after this class have definitely changed, and I now subconsciously look for ways in which women are exploited or held back, especially in the sports realm. However, considering how far women have come in such little time shows that they are still changing the world, and even in as little as 5 years from now, I think we will see more change in the favor of women in sport.
