What did you expect to learn in this course? Did you learn it?
Originally, I took this course because I needed a capstone and really wasn't too sure what to expect. I thought "women in sport" was going to be about women who are involved with sports such as professional athletes and their careers. Along with that, I thought it was going to involve some of their biographies and maybe some struggles they faced trying to become a professional female athlete. Although we did not learn the entirety of that in this course, I believe I received much more than I originally expected. I learned different aspects about women, a few female athletes, different obstacles that interfere with women, and different class and gender issues. We did come across some females and learned about their lives and what they went through during their career, but this class went further in depth about other topics as well. For example, the Clydesdale races and even about how media portrays women, title ix, and steroids.
If you could share one idea from this course with others, what would it be, and why?
If I could share one thing about this course, it would definitely be about title ix. I want to share this with people because the majority doesn't know how it could effect them and how it has got women involved in sports throughout the years. Although there is flaws in title ix, it has brought hundreds of thousands of women into athletics. I just want more people to be aware how it could effect them and even one day their children. There is a lot of of controversy involved in it and I just would like more people to be aware of it. It is a very interesting topic and without title ix, women athletics would not be what they are today.
