What did you expect to learn in this course? Did you learn it?
Upon enrolling in this course I expected that I would learn the history of women and their accomplishments. I hadn't expected as going in depth into issues of how far women had to come with not just sports but equal rights for education and in the business world as well. I'm glad I did because it made me more aware of issues, such as Title IX. I had heard about it but never really looked into the subject or who it affected because I never really had any interest in pursuing sports in college. Also what I learned how women's funding is still denied and it's still not an equal playing field and that things still need to change to fix that. So I would say I learned what I expected to plus a whole lot more and it gave me more insight to the subject as well as struggles women face.
Did your view of women in sport change as a result of this course? Why or why not?
I'd say that my view of women in sport has changed significantly after this course, I had never really thought so much of women not receiving media attention as much or that they didn't get to participate in sports like men do. I hadn't even thought about fair treatment in education. After learning what women have had to fight through in this course I have a better understanding and appreciation for what they had to fight for to get the fair treatment they should have had all along. I also have more appreciation for what I benefit from just by being born male and hopefully society realizes that it shouldn't matter what you happened to be born as but provide equality for all people in all forms.
