What did you expect to learn in this course? Did you learn it?
To be honest, I didnt plan on learning anything. I needed to take a capstone and being a history major I wanted to take a course that seemed easy. The less reading that was involed the better. The more the semester progessed the more I found myself becoming more interested with the readings and topics. When I was assigned the topic of gender testing for female athletics and involed myself with the reasearch I learned so much about the proceptions of gender. I wanted to know more about how gender is a social construct, and as a result how I am a result of these constructs. I found out that in many aspects I am a typical women since I fit into these constructs but just because I fit into them does not mean I should jugde others that dont.
Did your view of women in sport change as a result of this course? Why or why not?
Yes of course! When I would see women athlets on the cover of sports magazine I would think to myself. Wow that girl has a body! I wish I could look like that! Now I see how they are objectifield. These women put long hours into training and for for? To be seen as sex symblos? It makes me sad, and I obvouisly dont view that in the same way i used to.
